Hello all,
I'm putting the engine back in my boat - Volvo Penta AQ175 V6
I'm sturggling with the wiring. The photos I took doing stripdown were mostly lost. I've attached some below of the current state took last week.
I have 2 thin wires, yellow and purple, I'm sure they're OK and are the "activation signal".
My trouble is I have a pair of red & black medium gauge wires and another pair of red & black heavy gauge and I don't know where to put them! I've got 3 obvious points of contact, not 4 and I'm confused. 1 of them seems to be shared between the solenoid then goes through the body of the starter. One's on the solenoid and one's on the body of the motor casing.

Please help!

Logic would say the two large black go to the main starter body whereas the two large red go to the solenoid stud, BUT without knowing where the other end of the wires go i would be dubious until sure!

The medium red and black may go to the alternator.

The reds go on the large solenoid terminal. I expect there to be 3 of them:
a 50mm one which is the main + supply from the battery vai the isolator
a 10mm one which is the output from the alternator
a 5mm one which is the + to the feed control panel.

A Red/yellow 1.5mm one is the power to the solenoid coil ( small terminal) from the key switch

A Purple 1.5mm one is a connection from the other small terminal to the ignition coil. It bypasses the ballast resistor in the ignition circuit during starting

I do not know how to distinguish between the two small terminals . It may not matter or they may be marked SW and I respectively.

AFAICS all black wires are negative connections to the starter motor body, engine block, or alternator D-

One large terminal on the solenoid is simply the connection from solenoid to the starter motor itself

You should be able check out all the wires by reference to the wiring diagram in the Owners manual available from http://www.volvopenta.com/volvopent...lication_search/pages/publication_search.aspx
