HI, selling a 1kw starter motor from a 5.0 GL V8 GMC engine, to a chap that has a 7 L V8 Diesel engine (GMC) of the same year 1999 / 2000.

Question is are they compatable, the mounting holes appear to line up and the teeth on the starter cog are the same number.

So is it powerful enough ??

Cheers

Peter

I don't think so. The cranking current for a diesel is enormous due to the v. high compression. Typically the cranking current for a substantial diesel can be 500- 800 amps., and that would be at 24V. A petrol engine would be 200 - 400amps at 12V. Power wise - far to small.
Sorry.

As a Volvo Penta twin cylinder 2002 has a 1.4 kW starter which doesn't appear too big, I would have thought the answer to your question is almost certainly no.
