I have just acquired a brand new starter motor for my perkins 4108. The thing is the new one is grounded through the body, my current one is grounded through an insulated stud. Simple question, Are they interchangable? Can I attach the current ground to the body of the new motor ?

I think it would be better to fit the proper starter which is insulated. You could get your new one modified by getting an insulated ground stud fitted (or do it yourself)
You will already have an insulated alternator and all the instrument senders, and there are no anodes in a 4108, only the alloy spigots on the nicor gearbox if that is fitted, so it needs a bit of thought before shorting out the galvanic protection. Mine is a 1978 unit and is still in one piece, I don't think it would be if it was part of the electric circuit.
