Hi all,

New to the forum but just wanting to pick on all of your numerous experience levels. I've had a look through the previous but...

Could anyone suggest a suitable battery to use for starting and essential services on a 5.0l Volvo Gxi (2008 +)?

Any ideas much appreciated!

Thankyou /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It's fairly normal to split starting duties and essential services, so you could be looking at two batteries, and some specialist switching and charging circuitry.

What is the present system on board, and why do you need to change it ?

Your owners manual states a battery with 650 CCA rating. See the technical specification section.

You will have to estimate your domestic requirements and ensure that not only do you satisfy that CCA rating but that the Ah capacity is large enough to support all the fridges, freezers, microwaves, televisions, computers etc that you will be using without running the battery down to the point where it wont start the engine.

I'd want separate domestic and starter batteries preferably using a deep cycle battery or batteries for the domestic services.

As far as I can see Sailormans link is to mostly Leisure batteries. Even for the starter batteries I did find on the site no mention was made of the all important CCA figure. I'm not sure that you'll find a leisure battery with that CCA rating!

PS if you have mislaid the owners manual you can download one from HERE

or HERE

Thankyou very much VicS that has sorted me out, much appreciated!

sara - no need to change. Already a 185 ah for domestics but running small demands like nav lights from starter battery, just need a suitable replacement but couldn't find manual to find crank requirement

Just for your interest, the 2 leisure batteries from Sailormans link have the following CCA. The 678 is 450 and the other one being 750.
