I bought I bottle of Starbrite Mildew Remover to clean my halyard bags and tiller cover. However, having read the instructions, it states that it is not recommended for fabric although I am pretty sure I have used it before. The bags and cover are a natural canvas colour; does anybody else have experience using this product, the material is flecked with black and green specks, or is there something better out there?

ITYWF that it is hypochlorite bleach based. If so dont use it on anything that you would not use ordinary household bleach on.

I use this stuff around the house. I find it effective in preventing mildew but it takes a while for existing black spots to disappear

Dont know how well it will prform on canvas. Got rid of the black spots eventually on a shower curtain.

Otherwise look for other bleach free products ( Polycell 3 in 1 perhaps ) but test them on fabric because i had one that stained ... forget which it was though.

Beware of using any strong bleaching agent on canvas and polyester ,there will be a colour change ,fabric can weaken as a result and the stitching will also suffer.Best to only spray the product (diluted ) and rinse well when the mildew has lightened.Sunlight ,and proofer with mildew inhibitor helps to keep mildew away.
Try not to soak coated fabric such as nylon life jacket bladder,as this can eventually harm the adhesion of the woven to the film backings.
