I had a similar problem on my old boat. Turned out to be the thingy in the sterndrive that moves from forward to reverse had jammed thus preventing throttle movement. You can gather from my reply that I am no mechanic!!!!

Hi
As already mentioned, can you raise the outdrive and remove the leg cover, disconnect the gear selector cable from the shift lever, make sure the cable end and swivel (brass bit on cable) are clear and check for movement in and out by moving throttle lever, if it doesn't move usually seized cable if it does move then attempt to move selector lever on outdrive, from where the cable is attached there is a rod going up to an arm that is horizontal when in neutral, see if that can be moved either direction it doesn't matter (thats your forward and reverse). If you cannot move it then I am afraid its the outdrive but as you mention you have not used it for a while I am hoping that with a bit of extra help it will free itself, put the cable back on, new split pin, cover on, outdrive back down and off you go - if only it was that easy!!
I hope I have explained it OK

Well well just had the same problem myself today. I thankfully started at the cotrols checking the cables and levers in this area, all ok. next port of call for me was the bend and sleeve where the cables start to bend around ready to insert into presumably the gear box (Im not a mechanic) just enjoy tinkering To get to the point here it was actually the bend of this outer rubber sleeve which had slipped and increased the radius and bingo that was the problem sorted..
Try this first before anything else! It certainly worked for me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Is it a lever problem or a gearbox / thottle problem i.e, is it stuck at the flybridge & lower helm or just one of them? Will the lever move in neutral? Have you tried turning the "command" lever (under the flybridge helm) back-and-forth?

Open up engine hatch, disconnect the final cable into gearbox and check that the mechanism is actually trying to move the cable, i.e the gear levers (upper or lower) are actually working. If they are, then it is most likely to be the cable that has stuck, unlikely to be linkage in outdrive.

Could try a bit of extra force. Mine sometimes seize after the winter lay up, or they did until I put some new cables in. Replacing cables is easy, providing boat is out of water.

Good luck.

I would agree with your statement, however his boat doesn't have gearboxes that is why I gave the previous reply about checking at the outdrive end (equivilent to your gearbox)
