Hi - I need some repair work on my mast for which it has to be unstepped, due to the boats age/use I am considering replacing the standing rigging at the same time. Can someone give me a rough figure for the cost of this work for a 40' boat with a keel stepped, triple spreader, 7/8th rig? I appreciate I can get the same from my local rigger but just wanted an idea independently.

For our 42ft 2007 Jeanneau in 2020 the manufacture only, ie removal, delivery, collection from the rigger and refitting of the standing rigging we did, was £2500. The rig is deck stepped and double spreader so sounds a bit simpler than yours. I imagine this would be more like £3000 now so a helpful lower bound for you depending on how diy you want to get.

Same boat and same price, here, but in 2021.

However, the yard had to order more 10mm wire a couple of months ago (mast was only restepped a few weeks back) to finish the job and complained that the price to them was three times more than we had paid.

Apparently Russia is a major nickel supplier and so stainless inflation is rampant.

I had exactly this with new guardwires. Quote last December, fitted June and the wire cost had more than doubled. For some reason XW didn't pass on this cost despite me saying I was happy to pay and it was my fault for the delay, so I got lucky with a great business.

I used the JG calculator to establish base price for my re-rig. Local rigger quotes in the same ball park. While wire is expensive the terminals and bottle screws are well over half the cost - my forestay (6mm), for example, wire £65, terminals and bottle screws £105.

Triple spreader rig will have lots of terminals so you may well get a bit of a shock when you tot it all up.

Luckily we paid upfront in December last, although I think the boss of the yard had initially forgotten that and our discussions also seemed to be implying he wouldn't pass the additional cost on (until I reminded him it was paid for!). Apparently their policy will now be that rigging quotes are only valid on the day they're priced!

It seems to me that Sta Lok (which were used on ours) haven't increased their prices at all through 2022. They work a lot from their annual catalogue RRPs (which of course they are within their rights to change, but don't seem to have done so). I wonder if fitting prices will jump up when new 2023 catalogues are issued?

At least in our case, fittings seemed to be ordered by the rigger phoning Sta Lok up with the catalogue in one hand, so perhaps that makes business sense for them not to adjust those prices incrementally?
