If anyone was thinking (as I was) of using the Staande Mast Route from Delfzijl to Harlingen/Ijsselmeer (or the other way round) in the coming weeks, then I'm afraid you need to think again. Dutch water authorities report that an opening bridge in Groningen (the Visserbrug) needs urgent repair and will be out of operation until "mid-August". More on the RWS site here: Fairway Information Services

Note: it looks as though transit will be possible 5/6/7 July but other than that it is (already) out of action until further notice. Low motor boats have an inland diversion but anything with a height of 1.60m or more needs to use the Waddenzee/Noordzee.

That section is much less scenic than west of the Lauersmeer and we generally preferred to skip it, but it will be a shame for some people not to have the option, especially in foul weather. The modernist gallery/museum that sits in the canal at Groningen is itself worth a visit.
