Hi, with this change and added extra water to petrol. Is it still safe to use E10 with a 2 stroke 4hp mariner marine outboard engine? I believe engine is less than 20 years old, thanks

In my opinion:
Would it run on it - yes
Will it degrade the parts faster, requiring a carb rebuild and hoses over time - probably

Personally if we're mine for the amount it will use I would just buy the premium fuel as it stores better for long periods.

If you were running a large V8 it might be different but the difference in cost for premium fuel will be negligible on such a small engine.

Others have strong feelings on this so I think it's a matter of personal opinion for you to decide.

Yes it will be fine. Oil added of course as it is 2 stroke

Hi thanks for info, I believe this is the case too, I`ll use the premium as needs to last longer, also dont need extra repair bills,

I put premium petrol in my Evinrude (made in 1966 - 3hp) and it certainly started easier and ran better.
As did my lawnmower.
In my Mercedes car premium petrol made no noticeable difference.

Premium unleaded is still 5% ethanol while regular unleaded is 10% ethanol and this is deceiving.

In the older premuim unleaded it is actually UP TO 5% ethanol in theory and in practise it runs around 2.08% ethanol because it doesn't work well in super unleaded and it is expensive for the fuel companies to purchase and add to their fuels so they put the least in they can get away with.

It won't Martyn because the various sensors monitoring your engine set it to run to a set of specifications and it doesn't matter what fuel is used as long as it is within the parameters specified as all the engine adjustments are made to achieve those specifications and run within its set parameters.

My toy is a Nissan GTR with a 1600 BHP conversion and it has to run on super unleaded and I once filled it with regular unleaded and it threw up more fault codes than I ever imagined it had.

Would be wise to add a dose of fuel stabiliser to the tank. This is supposed to counter the ill effects of E10, all sounds really silly to me. Apparently engines produce less power with the E10, so fuel consumption increases, and so we end up back where we started as regards sustainability...madness.

I think there is a lot of old pony talked about this petrol by theory mongers and the OCD brigade. Just put it in the tank and use it.
