As far as I know, it will be a GX-1500 but it may not have the international channel set. This could almost certainly be programmed in, but by the time you have done that might it be worth getting one from a reputable Horizon dealer?
The Quest radio you've asked about is the GX1255. There's another Standard Horizon radio called the Quest-X and this is the GX1500.
The Quest (GX1255) is a fairly basic radio. It will certainly work in the UK because it has all US, International and Canadian channels fitted. However, it won't be certified for use in the UK so technically it won't be legal for you to own it.
The Quest-X (GX1500) is a much better radio, with full Class D DSC capability, better display, and the ability to add a remote mic. If you buy one from the US, it will work here just like the Quest will, but it also won't be legal to own it. However, you can buy a European version, the GX1500E, which is legal for use here. Expect to pay around £140 for the European version.

Malthouse, As "reputable Horizon" dealer, what do you think about the difference in their RRP between the US and the EU. Do dealers put pressure on the manufacturers about this? (presuming that you can't be happy that many customers decide to risk the illegality of it and just buy the VHFs in the US...)

Alas I am far too small a fry to put pressure on Mr Horizon and his collection of Standards. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
It is certainly a worry, but there will almost certainly always be a difference in market price points from one area to another. I myself would not even consider going around the radio regs but as you say, some people will and the manufacturers are aware of that.
The Horizon gear is fantastic value for money, why someone would want to save a few bob and risk the hassle of importing one is beyond me. More details on their pricing policy may have to wait until Jon Brooks gets back from his holidays, when we can all throw virtual fruit at him. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If it's only £140 for the EU version, I'm not sure I can see the point of saving £40 or £50 on one from the US. There would almost certainly be no warranty support in the UK, (or it would be difficult), and it is such a critical piece of kit.
Cobra MR F55 fixed vhf radio new £100
from uk is this set any good?

If you're looking for a budget DSC fixed VHF radio, it might be best not to look at the very cheapest. For a few pounds more, you might buy better value and reliability. How about the Navman 7100, widely available at £130 inc UK delivery?
