I recently attempted a firmware update for my Standard Horizon HX870 radio (which was working perfectly). After some time I found the correct software for installing the firmware into the radio. 50% of install was complete when a communication error popped up. Restarting the download disconnected communication with the radio and it stopped working. It will not power up and the screen does not show charging when plugged into charger. I've considered the battery might have been fried, but find that to be a stretch. Standard Horizon tech support has nothing to offer. Any suggestions or thoughts will be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums!

As it happened whilst you were installing Standard Horizon's firmware update, I reckon you should hold them responsible. Send it back to them and ask them to fix it without charge.

From what I can see, the updated firmware doesn't do a lot, so I think I'll leave mine alone!

GREAT news - KompetentKrew found the answer! Thanks KKrew.

Standard Horizon HX870 Firmware upload lessons learned
:
For most newer (windows 10) computers use YCE15 upload application vs. YCE03 as indicated in the users Manuel
Once communication is established through YEC15 applicaion then click on Firmware Update HX870_V204 file (downloaded previously) and click start
DO NOT let your computer enter sleep mode while uploading the Firmware Update to the HX870 (if you do or if you experience a communication failure) or your radio may go to sleep. If it does the screen will be blank and unit will not power up. Follow the thread above from KKrew, as I did, and you can recover the radio. (Re: Additional HX890 updates)
