I am considering installing a Standard Horizon GX2200E VHF?/AIS and connecting to the latest Raymarine e7 plotter. Advice please on wiring connection via NMEA?

Assuming it is pretty similar to the Gx2100 but with GPS data added. The VHF will have two NMEA0183 outputs. One normal 4.8Kb and an HS 38Kb for AIS information. If your plotter can take that NMEA0183, good.

I used an Actisense convertor to get the AIS information onto the Raymarine Seatalk ng bus. I don't have a plotter.

Beware that if you want both NMEA outputs multiplexed together you need a box to do that (See YAPP). Also before buying an Actisense convertor, if you do that, make sure that you check that it converts the sentences you want converted. I don't think they do DCS or DSE.

So what on the Seatalkng bus is using the AIS data?

EDIT: I remember now seeing a picture of an AIS screen on one of the "normal" instruments, which I guess is what you're doing? I'd be interested to know how well those work in practice.

I'm not on the boat at the moment, and so the manuals are not available to me. I have just fitted an E7 and connected the AIS feed from a Standard Horizon gx2100 and also the dsc data. I also needed to feed the GPS signal from the E7 to the gx2100. In your case, Im guessing that you will only have to have to connect the outputs from the VHF as it carries its own GPS I believe. The NMEA 0183 inputs feed directly into the ports on the back of the E7, the only thing I had to do was to spend some time puzzling over the manuals, and after the connections were made I had to go into the menu system on the E7 to specify the baud rate on the ports. At least, that's what I remember. It was not not too difficult and I did not need an Actisense unit. Hope this helps!

I'm using a Raymarine i70. It's a 4" display but it is good enough for practical purposes (might be a nightmare in the Solent though if there are dozens of contacts).

I also have a vYacht WiFi box (partially commissioned) which allows me to display the AIS data on a PC using OpenCPN. I say partially commissioned as I've got it working connecting the PC over Ethernet but have had a few glitches with the WiFi that I haven't had time to fully investigate yet.

Just connected my e7d to my radio...just two cables from the radio to the yellow and brown nme outputs...took about 2 mins.

Hi GrahamD - I'm looking to do this with the same radio to the e7d.

Does all the AIS data display on the E7, or is it just basic with just an MMSI number and nothing else.

What additional wring did you need to buy to connect to two together?

Cheers

Answered in the thread you started, to avoid confusion/duplication.

Although, post #6 answered your question.
