I fitted this radio recently. While going in to Swansea I found that it would not transmit on ch80. It receives ok on this channel and transmits on other channels. I can't find anything in the manual about this. It is set on International settings

Any ideas?

Channel 80 is only available in the International channel setting, so if you're sure that's what it's set on then it's likely that the radio is faulty.

According to the Channel Assignments (page 131 of the Owner's Manual), channel 80 is a DUPLEX channel, therefore you probably won't get a 2-way conversation. (Or have I got this wrong?)

I've heard of RTM but I've never heard of read the bit that fell out in the box! There is a piece of paper that I didn't see that says that, despite the vhf saying Int on it, the unit is not set. Once I found that and did set it then it works. Swansea Marina came back to me with a 'loud and clear.'

Sorry to have wasted your time :-(

That makes absolutely no sense! What did the piece of paper tell you to do?

I know with the Gx2100 you can very occasionally leave the channel slector knob part way between channels if you are not careful. If this is a one off maybe that's what happened.

I'm surprised it wasn't set to Int by default in the UK. Did you get it from an unusual source? Maybe the US?

Apologies.
Once I found the separate piece of paper I followed the instructions on it. Apparently, the unit is not set to any of the USA, Int or UK station settings at source. I needed to set these using the instructions. Once I had done this I could transmit on Ch80 :)

I'm still no wiser. When you took it out of the box, it must surely have been set to one of the Int/US/Can channel groupings?
