Have any Standard Horizon users out there had problems with water ingress of their CP180i chart plotter. Ours has just failed and I've opened the back and there's some water got in and consequently a damaged circuit board.

Our plotter is not open to all the elements as it's under the bimini all the time. It does get splashed from rain or sea water from time to time though.

They don't seem to be even splash proof as advertised or as the warranty states, so beware!

Do peeps think it's worth returning it to Stanard Horizon or just take it on the chin and buy a new one.

I don't fancy spending with Stanard Horizon again so may be you can tell me what you use please.

Unlucky?

Had my 180i in the cockpit for four years (nearly) and no probs. No cover, a little spray but lots of rain this summer. Speak to SH, I have always found them very helpful. Good luck.

I have the 300i on the coachroof. Under the sprayhood if it is up, but it mostly isn't when sailing as I like a clear view ahead. I always take it off when I leave the boat though.

No troubles in 3 years although the connector is showing a little green staining on the pins.

I would have a chat to Standard Horizon and see what they say. I've spoken to them on a couple of tech support queries and they've been very helpful.

Ours gave up due to water ingress - halfway across a nasty North Sea crossing, of course. We phoned SH, and were invited to send it back for repair, which we did. It was out of warranty, but they did not ask us about the date we bought it - anyway, they repaired it free and sent it back to us. Nice helpful service from them.

Thank you and all for you replies. I will contact Standard Horizon and hopefully it can be repaired, with or without charge. Nothing to lose and I'm pleased to hear it's not a throw away item like so much is these days.
I do feel as though my right arm has been cut off without it, how dependant we get to these wonderful bits of kit . . . !
