Standard Horizon CP180 stuck in a loop

Sounds like the on off switch has stuck in the switch on position. It is probably one of those dimple switches and the dimple didnt undimple when someone pressed extra hard to try and motivate it. I shall have to beware pressing extra hard on mine and await Johhny Brooks reply!

You will have to send it back but from reports SH will return promptly..

I agree that it sounds like this, but nobody has turned it on or off recently.

There doesn't seem to be any form of hardware reset, other than holding down a key when booting - and as I said, this doesn't work.

The complication is that I'm about 100nM from base, in bad weather. I've got the H/H GPS rigged to the PC, but George won't work. Of course, it's a Saturday, so even if I could get a reliable phone signal it probably wouldn't be worth phoning the tech support number in the USA.

That sounds like a tricky situation, I too agree that it sounds like the power button is stuck in the pressed position. Perhaps try to clean it out? There may be some sand/salt in there.

The units themselves are very well put together, so I would doubt it is a vulnerability.

iirc it is splashproof - how about give the area around the buttons a quick wash off ... just with a spray of water/hose.... nothing too serious ...

The device has now been repaired by Standard Horizon UK.

I was a little concerned about a note in the box saying it was repaired as a goodwill gesture as there is no worldwide warranty on this product. This is a device that is supposed to be fitted into a vessel that travels between countries. I happened to buy the device when we were in the USA, now the boat is in Croatia, and I live in the UK. How on earth is it possible not to have a worldwide warranty on such a product?

On a slightly different note - Is it ?

I was looking at one of these yesterday at a well known Chandlery and the guy said don't buy one of those if you want to mount it in the cockpit, its not waterproof.

Has anyone got one flush mounted in the cockpit?

Re: Standard Horizon CP180 Splashproof ?

Ours is in the cockpit - but doesn't get wet ... it is under the sprayhood
