I have rule fitted on my boat, i replaced all the originals, with newer versions....
But, are there any others i really should look at, and why..... Johnson pumps.... Whale.....

Same goes with sea cocks. Any good or bad experience with plastics, and any to stay well clear of...

Cheers

Everybody who can help is obviously out partying. I would have been at Cowes but the weather gods had different ideas, still at least I'll have a clear head in the morning !

Anyway, as I understand it Rule tend to represent the economy end of the bilge pump market. I have fitted both a Whale Supersub in the isolated area under the aft cabin, but it hasn't as yet ever had to operate in earnest, and a Whale Gulper. Also I replaced a Rule flapper type float switch that was causing me a major earth leakage / galvanic problem with
a Whale solid state switch.

The Gulper has an long flexi suction tube that I use to vacuum the bilge, and also serves as sump pump for the forward shower.

I understand the Forespar Marelon plastic seacocks are well respected, and do not suffer galvanic problem, but not sure where to buy them.

Happy New Year to you and all other Forumites, and good sailing in 2014. See you all on the water.

Rule submersibles are far superior to Johnson and are very reliable, avoid the cheap Chinese copy's on eBay, a pump failure can cause a lot of grief.

Another vote for Forespar marelon, you get these from aquafax www.aquafax.co.uk

Second vote for the Waterwitch switches, I have replaced the Flapper type in two bilges and in the Sump drain box, all are working faultlessly, and have already outlasted the Flapper types.

For whatever reason, I have struggled to get the Flapper types to last more than 12 months. They either fail to operate, or sometimes fail to turn off, nothing but trouble.

Big advantage of the Water Witch, they have an overrun of about 8 seconds, so they tend to get the last of the water out and don't leave water in the bottom of the sump, therefore much less rinsing out required to keep it clean.
