Hi, I've just bought my first mobo, a Freeman 33 Sedan. My Mrs is new to boating so she has asked that I fit guardrails along the side decks. There is a bow rail fitted already and this has 2 eyes at each side for connecting wires.
Has anyone ever done this on a Freeman 33? Any advice?
I looked at a few pictures of F33's on google and some have fitted 6 stanchions per side and fitted guard wires. Can anyone recommend a good supplier of this equipment? Do I need a special stanchion for the end of the line?

Also, when fitting the stanchions, do I need to remove the interior and use nuts & bolts with backing plates or will large self tappers or blind studs work okay.

Big job. You can buy stanchion bases, either stainless fabrications or aluminium castings which need to be bolted through the deck. 24" stanchions are the standard size. The aft end normally goes to a stern rail, but you can get stanchions with braces to take the terminal load. An alternative is to run the wires down to eye plates on the deck. You will need wires made up to length with terminal fittings. There are different ways of doing this, either permanent eyes or removable rigging screws. Some means of tensioning is required.

Suggest you speak to a yacht rigger as you will need one of those to make up the wires. The bolting down of the bases is a shipwright job, and probably quite a bit of labour to get behind the trim to access fastenings and install backing plates.

Thanks for the kind offer Alpha22, but I'm afraid you are a bit far away. I'm in Ireland.
I think I might keep an eye out for some reasonably priced or secondhand bases, then I'll buy some stainless steel tubing and drill it. I'll then get some plastic covered ss wire and some DIY fittings to connect it with or I might know someone who has swagging gear.
An off the shelf solution is big bucks.
Thanks for your advice.
