OK, you knowledgeable lot. I need 8 bases for stanchions, in stainless steel, with 4 mounting holes, maybe 2 would do! but the need to be the type that are side mounted as on a passerelle, not bottom mounted. Any ideas?
Hmm, never seen that. Maybe look for pipe mounting brackets like http://www.western-marine.com/page148.htm
On the other hand not a difficult job for a local machine shop, and then you can get them exactly as you'd like them.
If the stanchions are also S/S, could you have plates welded directly to the sides of the stanchions?
All else being equal, this form of attachment should be stronger than having the end of the stanchion welded to a plate (or in a socket type base).
All of the RNLI offshore lifeboats have these type of stanchions, where the bases are then through bolted to the toe rail / bulwark. Much better (I think) than bolting vertically through the deck.
Yep, Thanks, basically what I'm after, but at that price, I will get them made in stainless. But thanks for your input, wasnt sure I was describing them properly now I know I am!
