stainless steel soap

After stripping a winch just now (not wench) , washed hands 3 times and still smelled of grease.

Washed again and then used stainless steel bar. Smell gone. Silly of me to wash before used steel as now I have no conclusion.

Google gives mixed answers. Anyone experienced it?

Going to work on winch later; will experiment with the bar of 'soap' properly after that. Amazing if it works. I bought it years ago for when I went fishing.
