Sorry, bit of a random one, but I've failed to find anything suitable online and thought I'd try here on the off-chance.

I'm after some sturdy coathangers to use for oilskins and possibly lifejackets, now that I have lockers to keep them in. Many years ago in a restaurant in Rendsburg on the Kiel Canal, we hung up our coats on hangers made of chunky polished stainless - wire diameter about 5mm or so, classic coathanger shape - and I thought "these would be great for storing oilies on a boat". Now that I want them, I cannot find any.

Don't suppose anyone has any leads?

Cheers,

Pete

I think I remember discounting those as the hook was thin and poorly spot-welded to the main part. Dump a heavy wet oilskin on it and the two are liable to part company. I'm looking for indestructible :)

Strangely, I've found the nylon ones that my suit come back from the drycleaners just right for the job.

And before anyone wonders all my gear is ocean level and I'm 6'5" with physique to go with it, so the hanger needs to be robust .....

These look good - they have non slip rings on the shoulders....

The Amazon ones are described as "Material Thickness: ca 0.4 mm", which I take to mean that the main arm is a thin-walled tube rather than solid, and therefore question its robustness.

The Zack So-and-so ones certainly look the business in construction, but have no bottom side to the triangle to hang oily trousers over. I also don't really want to pay £11 per hanger for "design" if I can avoid it.

Picky, aren't I? :)

I award today's anti humour oblique award to PlankWalker and Bobolinsky.....:D

Actually, I would mill them out of solid billet.

Make them from stainless wire and give them to a fab shop to spot up

Hadn't thought of making them myself. Hmm. I have a MIG welder and half a bottle of argon. Run out of stainless wire, but could get some more. Metal Supermarkets probably have the rod.

Forming them by bashing over the vise in the shed, I suspect they may end up a bit wonky though - especially the hooks. Functional, but I'd rather have nice-looking factory-made ones I think.

Seen the review? :)

I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT I WAS GETTING A SOLID STEEL HANGER, INSTEAD THEY ARE HOLLOW INSIDE WITH A VERY THIN WALL. THEY ARE NOT STURDY, THEY ARE FLIMSY, AND THE WELDS BREAK APART EASILY. THEY ARE JUNK, AND I THREW THEM IN THE TRASH. THEY ARE A WASTE OF MONEY. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM.

I've seen the same ones on eBay, and the Chinese seller had the good grace to write something like "these are made on metal that is no good, not quality" :D
