A4 and AISI 316 are the same material, Cr18/Ni8/Mo2.

Thanks Vyv, I was hoping you might respond.

So,if I want to install a rivnut into an Alu mast, and the screw is A4, I will get galvanic corrosion. This may be preventable with some cromate paste. But should I use an alu rivnut (and paste between nut and screw) or a ss rivnut and paste between rivnut and mast? The application does not have to be mega-strong, it is just to fix end stops on a car track

I would use a stainless rivnut. Attachment of stainless steel fittings to aluminium masts and booms is an everyday process and corrosion even without chromate paste is not widespread. I have rivnuts holding my boom end cap to the boom, no paste, and there is no sign of corrosion after 10+ years. Masts and booms are not normally very wet.
