It was suggested I replace the broken hinges on my forehatch with a piano / continuous hinge.

I have found a couple of non boaty suppliers that have then in 316 stainless BUT they come in 6' lengths. I need 2 x 1' (going to do same on stern locker too) and then I could use the remaining length on the cockpit locker.

Do I just cut it to length? If I do I have convinced myself that the continuous pin that runs through the hinge would then work itself out. Or do I remove the pin before cutting to length, cut the pin slightly longer and put it back in and bu**er the ends to stop it coming out again. Am I over complicating things?

Why not cut just a few mms too long right through the pin and then cut off to the right size but not through the pin. Take off the little bit you don't want and then peen the end over.

I don't think you'll get the pin out and you certainly won't get it back!

Hi

Did you go through with this? If so do you have any leftover piano hinge that I could buy? I need about 60cm for a hatch fitting.

If you'd rather keep it for spares no worries, just thought I'd be cheeky and ask /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Many Thanks,
Ian
