Staining Teak & Holly cabin sole! Am I daft in the head?

So I have an eighteen year old boat, fitted out in beautiful teak, but the sun has taken its toll on the red colour of the teak and holly sole. So I have bought some nitromors paint stripper, some 6mm masking tape and Ronseal Burma teak dye and varnish of course. First results look awesome, but it is quite time consuming!!!!!

Has anyone else done this sort of stuff or am I nuts?

Did you have a go at sanding the bleached top layer off? The veneer usually responds to a light sanding. Photo of the result would be good!

A pic but not yet varnished

The picture is before and after though this one is not yet varnished. I confess to being quite pleased but it is a lot of work. Still it's winter and I've not a lot else to do in the evenings. Sorry the image is upside down but you get the general idea.

I've stripped my holly/teak soleboards several times with chemical stripper; then lightly sanded and re-varnished. Why do you you want to stain them? ... is the veneer damaged to the underlying ply?

You are lucky if your paint stripper actually works .... most of the 'reformulated' stuff now seems almost useless.

I think the teak colour has faded in the sun. I just used paint stripper and a light sanding. checked out the colour with new stuff. Mega bucks from Robbins timber.

I am using the Ronseal diamond hard stuff. 2 coats of gloss plus one of satin. Tough as old boots.
