Hello Everybody,
New to me boat has a combination of meranti and sapele strake and deck grab handles. The wasboards
are marine ply. After sanding down I am ready to stain the wood.Another boat owner recommended Sikkens
waterbased to me.Any other recommendations gratefully received.

Thanks for the info guys.I hadn't planned on varnishing just staining. What are the merits of applying varnish over stain apart from giving it a shine?
Apologies if this sounds daft

Waste of time just staining (which only colours the wood). The porous woodstains such as Sikkens are a varnish substitute and will protect the wood for years. As suggested Woodskin is a slightly different formulation from the Sikkens type with less colour tinting and gives a more varnish like finish.
