Stack Pack Zip

We've taken our stack pack off for the winter so we can replace the full length zip but are having difficulty in finding a supplier.
The existing zip is light weight and a replacement heavy duty, chunky plastic type would be preferable.
Has anyone any links/contacts/ideas?

A thought for when you replace the zip have it unzip from the boom end to the mast that way when you are sailing the 'tail' of the zip doesn't flap in the breeze, annoy you and wear out prematurely
 
Stack pack zips

Ideally you want vislon 10 moulded teeth separating zip. From Kayospruce you can get 10, 12 and 15ft ft In this quality should be around £1.50 a ft retail.
If you dont want separating zip you could use the extra large size 15,which really is the biz for a stack pak.

Use UV resistant thread or you will be restitching it after three to four years, Kayospruce and Hawk House will supply that too.
 
Zips

Kayospruce, Bainbridge or PT Wincheter will be the best people to try. If you cant get any joy direct give me a shout. I have accounts with all of them and you are welcome to purchase through them.

Possibly a better deal to be had from your local sailmaker after all, don't dismiss them out of hand.

Caroline at Hotwells Canvas has been brilliant with all the jobs I've given her. She's cheap and quick and excellent - perhaps save yourself the hassel of DIY and give it to her. She recently re-sewed all of our seams and patched a hole in our stackpack:

I fitted a 10mm zip AND a velcro flap. Unfortunately I discovered velcro has no UV durability and will be removed this winter. Apparently it's polypropylene?
Proper sail makers zips are plastic and can be fitted with all plastic sliders so should last for ever. No more pouring hot vinegar to free them! This is especially useful where zips are rarely undone.

PS: I've just had a brilliant idea. Whey don't I remove the velcro flap and re-stitch it INSIDE the cover. Should keep some rain out but no UV!

Just for info. We live just outside York and now have 14 inches of snow. It's the worst we've seen for a long time.

Just a short post to again thank all for the replies and to say we contacted Jeckalls of Wroxham, who have previously laundered our sails, and bought a replacement zip from them.

At a cost of £35.95, including postage, the zip was delivered on Saturday and was stitched on by my better half this afternoon (Tuesday).

Thanks to Jeckalls for a fast service.
