Recently I purchased some Sta Lok connectors, that come disassembled. The pins, as shown in the attached thumbnail, have two sets of tabs for gripping the cable. Should both tabs be in touch with the bare metal of the wire, or should the tab at the cable end be pressed against the insulation so as to give a more robust mechanical arrangement ???

All help appreciated.

With wire crimps like that the end tabs should grip the insulation.

Have never heard them refered to as Sta-Lock......that's usually a brand name for mechanical (swageless) rigging fittings.

That's definitely not a Stalok fitting. If you don't want to risk losing the mast I wouldn't use anything other than Staloks. Mate and Lock are for panel fiiting not rigging. Look at www.stalok.com for what mechanical rigging fittings look like.
