My Autohelm ST6000 installed in a 38ft flybridge cruiser was reading erratically and the autopilot did not work, presumably because the rudder reading was inaccurate and erratic.
On checking the rudder reference unit we noticed severe corrosion and relaced it with a new M81105. This corrected the rudder indication reading, however the autosteering now causes the boat to turn circles to starboard. With the autopilot not activated, the boat steers (manually) perfectly and the indicator accurately shows the position of the rudder.
As soon as I activate the autopilot, the boat turns to starboard and the display accurately shows the rudder turning and then its full starboard position (35deg).
I have reset the unit to factory settings and checked the wiring connections to no avail.
Any suggestions for the next step?
