ST60 speed log erratic

Afloat today and initially the log said zero on leaving the berth and marina while SOG was about 4 or 5 knots. Not uncommon, weed on the impeller no doubt, although I've only been back in the water a few weeks. After a few minutes it woke up, 0.2 knots then started to increase as it re-calculated....and went on doing so past 5 knots, 7, 9 , 11 before peaking at 14.7 knots. It held that for a few seconds then started coming back down, 12, 9 , 6 etc and fell back to zero. Later it came to life again and for a while seemed to be giving normal readings before taking off upwards again, finally falling back to zero.

Not had that one before. Clearly the impellor can't be over-running so it has to be in the electronics. I know about re-calibrating but this is evidently an intermittent fault somewhere. Usually water speed and SOG are very close when not in tides.

FWIW I haven't yet been up the mast to try to sort out the non-working ST60 wind mentioned in a previous thread, so perhaps this is in some way connected through Seatalk? The wind error has been there for a while though, without this latest problem showing up.

I did find a reference in a previous thread about disabling the water temperature sensor (which I don't use and I'm not even sure I have one) as this can fail and give odd results on the speed.

Any ideas out there please?
