I have a ST60 multi unit at the chart table, to monitor ST60 Wind, and Tri data in the cockpit , and when on enviroment i.e. Battery volts, it reads approx 0.84v high in comparison to the battery, with a multi meter.

How accurate are they normally? is there any way of re calibrating it?

Also when engine is running and charging, this unit reads 15.4v but drops back the longer I leave it to 15.2v. I only run the engine in gear for about 1/2 hr just to help top up the solar charge about once a fortnight, but it is a little worrying? should I be worried, or is this normal as I don't want to cook the batteries?

Is there any way to check if the alternator is working properly and shutting down the charge at the right time.

Engine is a Yanmar 2gm 20 with a 35amp alternator, I have no method of checking the alternator output direct only a cheap muti meter at the battery.

i find similar but not that high under engine the water temp is also inaccurate

It says in the manual to adjust the voltage reading yourself to match the voltage you measure at the battery. Part of the set up.
I am assuming you have the Graphic display?
Manual avail here

Hi Dylan,

Thanks for the info, and link to the maual.

Having read it cover to cover, could you please tell me where it says " to adjust the voltage reading yourself to match the voltage you measure at the battery" ?

You can adjust the low battery alarm level, and sea Temp, as degree C or degrees F but nothing else ? unless I am missing something?

i dont think you are missing "it". ;)

I have the same problem with ST60 voltage readings.
I have not found a way to calibrate the instrument, and assume it may be the 60+ that has this facility if it exists.

As for the voltage readings pertaining to your charging, you don't describe the system. If for instance you have an Adverc fitted it will cycle up and down, whereas a Sterling will remain at 14.8 for over an hour then drop to about 13.5. Normal internal regulator will rise to just over 14 and stay there. Better to use a meter and if neccessary measure at the alternator in case a joint is heating up.

Hi Dylan,
Thanks for the input; I didn't realize there was an updated model ST60 Multi called a ST60+Graphic Display. I do actually have the old model ST60 Multi, and having read the Manual for the new one have realized what you said is correct, the new version can be calibrated to suit your battery voltage.
Also earlybird and pvb are also correct in saying that my ST60multi is not adjustable with regards to calibration, what a bummer!!

I’ll just have to put up with it, as it doesn’t warrant the expense of an upgrade?

Biljrat with regards to the alternator, I don’t have a Sterling alternator regulator, only the original 35amp engine alternator which has an internal regulator, I was wondering how I could test to see if it is working properly? Any ideas welcome.
