I was disgusted to see in this months Sailing Today article on replacing prop Shaft Shaft bearing photographs depicting and advising downright dangerous practices.
No2 using a shifter the wrong way round to remove the prop nut so all the stress is on the moving jaw and making it liable to bursting, then standing on the shifter and having the prop resting on a wobbley block of wood ready to slip and the prop blade sink into his leg
No37 when replacing the prop nut using a stillson wrench of tools and it was too small. You could see the damage this did to the nut in photo 38
Finally he cut the packing at right angle instead of 45 degrees and no mention of inserting the packing so the cuts are staggered around the shaft.
Minus marks to J Goode - bilge cleaning duties for at least a month.
