Yep. The border is the centre line of the tamar all the way down the hamoaze to Drakes Island and then straight out to the centre of the breakwater (IIRC).
I tend to always fly the St Pirran's whether on the Devon side or not! :)

Fly St Piran from port halyard and "Devon" from starboard when going up the Tamar. The reverse on the way back down :D

I had the same problem some time ago.

I think that in this case, the county border is on the Devon embankment, especially near Tamar Bridge. Check it out!

I wouldn't fly a county courtesy flag - bit of a silly affectation IMHO. However, by a happy coincidence (given that if anyone cares it's probably the Cornish), I always fly St Piran's Cross as a masthead burgee to see where the wind is.

(Seemed appropriate on a Cornish boat, plus I was born in Truro though I wouldn't claim to be Cornish)

affectation! affectation! im considering dispensing with the duster and getting a nice devon flag instead. im sure we have as much right to devolution as the rest of the wannabees.

I don't fly a Scottish or Welsh courtesy flag either, if that helps?

(Never sailed in either of those places, so of course I don't :D)

truro is so far down i believe it to be the event horizon. what number base do you favour? 12?

My parents were only there for a few years, so while my birth certificate is Cornish my gene pool is not. Similarly my dad was born in Wales but is not Welsh, and my paternal grandparents were born in India but are not Indian. Always been a military family, moving around.

Actually I'd be rather proud to call myself Cornish, but I don't think it's a claim I could honestly make.

i think you can.
i have lived in plymouth most of my life but can never be a janner. i am a "man of kent" by birth and (proudly) stuck with it.
so maybe you need to embrace st piran a little more.

Our ensign being British rather than English, I dont feel any need to fly a courtessy flag in Cornish waters. Now if we were made to fly English colours then I'd probably fly Cornish colours all the time and an English courtessy flag the rest of the time, but happilly, that is not the case.

As it goes, I have a yard St Piran's flag which I am happy to fly from my port spreader whenever and wherever I feel I want to express my Cornishness.

As for the Devon flag, much as I love Devon, it's an entirely wannabee duster with a small and (I must say) very successful element of winding the Cornish up.

lol i suspect the devon colours pre-date st pirans and are far more aesthetically pleasing. sadly, though, rarely seen on water-craft.
who would ever think to wind up the cornish? didnt even realise they were clockwork.

I read of a grockle with a caravan who had a Devon flag draped across the back window. He strayed into Cornwall across the short land border near Bude and was stopped by the local plod. After b*llocking him about the 'foreign' flag I don't know whether they managed to find some pretext to book him.

Well that's certainly what I pay my taxes for!

i hope you guys from the west have nicely pressed devon standards to fly as a courtesy when passing drakes island.

Ah, but at that point he ceased to be a grockle, of course, and became an emmet instead :)

an interesting question. size, too small might be taken as a sneer and too large might seem a bit tongue in cheek.
i wouldnt worry too much about red, should be fine in scilonia.
while down this way you might like to try the Royal Corinthian, blazer and slacks should suffice.
