St Michael\'s Mount

Due to the settled weather we're thinking of anchoring overnight off St Michael's Mount.

Has anyone experience of this area and can offer any pilotage tips.
We've a fin keel and draw just under 2 metres.

We anchored there for most of a day many years ago and then went ashore by dinghy to visit the Mount. I don't remember any problems getting in or with the holding. You could always dry out alongside in the harbour if you have a sensible fender board. Take a picture of your boat with the Mount in the background and then take another from the Mount - you won't regret it..

Yes, we have done that, drawing 5'6". Good anchorage on sand to the west or northwest of the 'island' or causeway, as far in as you can get. I seem to remember a couple of small moorings there: we anchored to seaward of them. If there is any swell, you will feel it. My recollection is that Mountamopus is the only danger in the offing.

It is a pleasant way to visit a sublime bit of scenery. The mainland shore is/was a bit of a let-down. Look the other way.

If we're back in time we'll come and stare at you from the beach! We're going t'other way - probably you'll get more peace than we will.

Brian_B - if you do make it to the mount and care to offer any updates/corrections to the "anchorage notes" I would be delighted to incorporate them.
