I have received a competitive quote from the above for cover under their 'Premier Yacht and Motor Boat Policy'.

Does anyone have any comments, good or bad, about this company or it's policy?

When I was trying to buy a boat in Greece they were very helpful, recomending a surveryor and all sorts of things, did all they could to assist. However, did not complete purchase so have no actual experience of them for real. There was another thread on insurance about three weeks ago - have a look in there.

My experiences are all good.

The quotes have always been fine, and they are very good at instantly increasing cruising ranges over the phone.

The main reason I've stuck with them for the last 12 years (both for boats and now for personal sailing travel insurance) is that when a boat of mine got knocked off its supports in 1990 they were superb during the months it took to get fixed.

About 18 sq. foot of fiberglass had caved in the port side of the hull, the mast was in 3 pieces, and most of the internal furniture was broken. Oh, and it managed to start a domino effect 2 yachts downwind of it which were also smashed.

St Margarets looked after everything, including surveying the boat at the end. I had nothing to do or pay out - just picked up a rebuilt boat at the end which was in much better internal nick than when it fell over.

I have used St Margarets for the last few years and have found them competitive and also always particulary helpful and responsive.

Thoroughly recommend them.

Good luck

Confirm others: been with them 6 years and no probs the one time I needed to make a small claim.

Incidentally they and Pantanius were the only companies willing to quote me for a 2-handed Atlantic crossing in 1996 which is why I started with them.

I also had no problems increasing cruising range over the telephone, and they allowed a transfer of the unexpired portion of the policy when I sold the boat. I suppose it was good business to get "in" with the new owner, but nevertheless useful and helpful. I shall go back.

I've used them for years but had cause to call them to extend my cruising coverage to cross Biscay. Was amazed to find that not only was I already covered, but had coverage to take me to the eastern end of the med.

Yes - been with them for 10 years. 2 claims: 1 for burglary - all items replaced new for old with only one slight quibble soon sorted. 1 for stanchion/gelcoat damage by unknown boat -all paid for no quibble. My experience has been very good.
