Anyone know about buses from St Malo to any of the ports further west such as St Quay, Paimpol, Morlaix and points in between? We will be in one of these when crew need to join from the UK. St Malo seems a good place to ferry to but I am struggling to find details of bus services for once over there.

St Malo buses

We went through the same loop last month trying to get crew to/from St Malo and N Britanny.( Paimpol, Treguier, Lezardrieux, St Quay)

It is apparently only possible by a combination of buses and train via St Brieuc or Rennes.

We gave up in the end. Too difficult to be practicable. We did our crew changes via the Poole Condor Cats at St PP, St Helier and St Malo.

I know St Malo to Paimpol as we did it two years ago in reverse when there was another bad weather summer and we had to cut our cruise short and leave the boat in Paimpol for 3 weeks.

The train does the whole journey but involves two changes of train, sorry can't remember where you change but I'm sure the sncf website would help. A sinlge track line runs to Paimpol joining with the main TGV Brest to Paris line inland somewhere, it also calls at another ycahting place up a long estuary behind a lock.

When teh boat was picked up three weeks later a more economic route for 4 people was found to be ferry to Le havre then hire a car for 1 day to drive to Paimpol, drop 3 of 4 and drive back inland and catch the train on the single track line to Paimpol. To achive this the ferry has to be overnight and tehre must be no sightseeing en route!

Andrew

Brittany Buses

The local buses are great (http://www.tibus.fr/) - for local travel. St Quay to St Malo needed 3 changes. Train from St Brieuc was expensive (at short notice). Ended up quicker to sail back to St Helier.

Good luck
