This is nothing short of a bloody disgrace, though hopelessly predictable..... When it comes to preserving our maritime heritage it's a hackneyed theme of disinterest, incompetence and skulduggery. I was chatting to one of her volunteers last summer who told me that several scrap companies had already been on board to assess value of the non-ferrous metal.
Declaration of Intent to Deconstruct: National Historic Fleet Vessel ‘Cervia’ | National Historic Ships
The government cheerfully send billions of pounds to far-away dictatorships with large armed forces and even space rockets..
..but can't allocate a few quid to keep this absolutely unique historic vessel afloat. She isn't even in a bad state of repair.
This is more of a crime than a tragedy.

She's not great on/below the waterline, but nothing that can't be sorted. Needs a lot of plating.
