ST 6001 autopilot control

Hi I am sure that some of you will think this is a stupid question so beware I don't care what you think. I find pressing the +10 +1 buttons simultaneously to auto Tack to starboard awkward sometimes it changes 1 deg and others 10 deg and occasionally it tacks the boat, this applies to Port as well. I seems to me that some how it must be possible to connect the two buttons together, through a single button. I "race" very much cruiser races single handed , it would be much quicker if I had a button in a handy place to hit to start a tack, I have already dropped my Main sheet traveler ready, a quick pres of the tack button, I am now ready to release the Jib sheet from the winch, put the new working sheet on the winch, press the button and wind the winch in. I have just installed new sheet winches which are Lewmar electric ones, they are wonderful, I am 77 and winching plays havoc with my shoulders I hope to be able to keep sailing for at least another 20 years now!!!. any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

If you were to get the S100 remote control it would allow one button tacking. You would need to select "tack" with the mode button first. Probably an expensive solution though.

I've used this feature hundreds and hundreds of times and never, not once, have I had any unexpected 1 or 10 degree changes of course. Do you perhaps have it mounted somewhere awkward or always wear gloves? Personally I love the ST6001 as I fid it much more intuitive than any Garmin or Simrad stuff.

Hi Thank you for your reply, Yes I like the st 6001 too I have two on on either side of my cockpit, so that I can easily change course while putting on my fenders etc. Your right they are probably not in the easiest position, I have recently installed a st 70 at the front of the cockpit but the buttons are so small.
