The figures on my ST 50 depth sounder disappear when the backlight is on.They areperfectly visible in daylight ,but with the light on the screen is blank ,with the backlight on only.Is there anything I can do to repair this?

Hi Rigger!

Could be it's a malfunction within the unit, but have you set the Contrast to it's maximum for your normal viewing angle? On my depth sounder this was quite critical for when the backlight was on.

Good sailing!

I have this on my Autohelm Tridata. It's about 8 years old and put it down to being a bit past it so I would also be interested to know if there is something that can be done

Hi,

It is the LCD panel. I had mine done last year. The cost is nearer £90 by the time labour delivery and VAT is added! Its a close call to fix or replace.

I had the same problem. I don't think it's a problem, I think that's the way the old ST50's are. I found that, at night, I kept the lights on their lowest level which gave me the best view. Mind you the best was still not so good.
