ST 40 depth instrument acting funny

Works all right up to about 60 metres . Then goes to no reading which quickly changes to shallow water alarm although in deep water . Think it is programming but I need deep water to prove it and suspect that it is some thing else . Any solutions or ideas ? Has it happened to you ?

You obviously don't sail on the East Coast then /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Little call for such extreme depth readings here.

Could it be the gain? If too low might not get a good return signal above a certain depth?

Dont think so . Worked all right over deep from Sardinia to Italy . Started to malfunction in Ionian . Got a fright when alarm went off supposed to be in deep water and then hit shallow alarm . Thought I had a whale below
