S'Star ship unload in Villefranche bay sat 9Aug2014

This post is very much apropos nothing, no big deal, but possibly of light entertainment for those in SofF, or webcam viewers who are interested in the topic

I'm told that this Saturday 9 August 2014, one of those Sevenstar ships that transports yachts on deck will very unusually be anchoring in lovely Villefranche bay near Nice and unloading yachts. Normally these ships go to industrial ports and this one was going to Genoa, but for reasons that discretion prevents me explaining, it is going to Villefranche instead. It is a geared ship so will unload with its own gear, and the yacht owners/skippers will be taken out to the ship from the shore, by tender. I think 4 yachts will be unloaded. One of them, a new Fairline Targa 62, belongs to a friend of mine so I'll be there anchored nearby in my boat

For south of France weekenders you might want to anchor and spectate (or avoid completely if you prefer!). It should also be visible on the excellent webcam http://vsm.shinshu-a.com/. I don't know the timing of the show but the ship is called Admiralengracht and is easily tracked on AIS.
 
the local capo di tutti capi doing a buddy a favour ? :) What's a 30 hour diversion between friends ?

That's going to be a good engineering exercise to watch, and a bit nerve-wracking for the owners. Hope it all goes well.

For practice in nerve-wrackingicity here is mine loading in Southampton last June, shot with 2 cameras. Bit of a tight fit and very close to the neighbouring boat (a s'seeker manhattan 73)
 
There's allready a beached / abandoned 45 ftr or so Sea Ray on the RHS of the N Stoney beach , and some cliff subsidence ( ek real-estate values? ) so a few more boats wrecked -locals won't bat an eyelid .

LOL, if it weren't that the last time I posted a joke you said I'm "quite prejudiced", I would dare envisaging that those reasons could make for a much more interesting thread than the unloading as such.... :D :D :D

Ooh this sounds interesting, depending on how well the replacement canopy arm fitting goes I might bimble up to spectate, thanks for the tip-off.
 
See you around bimbling. If you need an angle grinder give me a shout :). I'm there from tmrw night (Thursday) for the cannes fireworx, then cruising Friday, anchoring overnight VF Friday night I think, then VF Saturday till about 6pm, and flying to UK Saturday night late. Got a bunch from the office down on the boat. MRC is there (now) and A+K might be down at weekend for start of long 3 wk holiday iirc

Ok I'll report progress :D. I'm down here now, got to head back Sat afternoon. See you in a day or two.
 
Tis an exciting sight for sure, owners nerves usually in tatters by the end !, done a few offloads outside of port from anchor, goes swimmingly until there is any kind of swell, ship doesn't move but your boat sure does once she's afloat alongside, so plan is to get out of Dodge ASAP as soon as she hits the water, no time to fiddle about. Problem isn't rubbing strake taking a knock (fendered up 10-15 big fenders, its when she rolls and you have 20-30' of vertical ship side to bounce your upperworks off.
 
jfm - When there's a human doing some work underneath your bow in that video you really get to appreciate the size of that monster of yours. Jesus H Christ!
 
According to marinetraffic.com, Admiralengracht is somewhere south of St Tropez - but has just done a u-turn and is now heading _away_ from nice/villefranche...?
