Oh for the life of me, wheres the nearest tree I'll go cuddle it. More green crap coming outta Brussles, yes I know its spelt wrong, telling us whats good for us.

In actual fact. Silencing an internal combustion engine to the point where its "quiet" actually uses more fuel so it ain't really that green! Law of physics. Hot gases expand. If they expand violently then theres a sound. Suppressing the sound is restricting the flow of gas. Which in turn reduces the output of said engine. Don't quote road cars at me thats a whole different ball game. So are 2 strokes that require a bit of back pressure to give a better scavanging effect.

Esiest way to make boats quieter is raise the duty on marine diesel. They won't get started as much!

21!!
Raggie halyard-tweaking, tack-blasting wind-monkey causes dismay amongst quiet mobos having quiet chat about smelly engines. Yuck!

It had to be a raggie that broke the 20 did it not!!!

I believe the noise regulations are to be extended to sailing boats in harbours. It has been accepted in Brussels that all that clanging is noise pollution and that every EU citizen is to be protected from any noise pollutiojn no matter what it source!

Anyway they are insisting on the new plastic coated masts, sheets and things so as to reduce the noise to acceptable levels.

I think this will be some form of control for drunk raggies who are beyond prosecution under the new drink and sail rules because their 40 ton 60 footer sail too slowly. This way if they come back drunk at night upsetting everyone, they can be done, at least, for the noise they make ... not that many would be able to find their boats without all the unique clanging each boat has.

I mean if I lived in a row of houses and one has put a mast up in the back yard producing all that clanging all night, the council would soon be round to chop it down or something so why should a marine stuffed with Mobos that never go out be any differently treated?

Well, don't you all have double-glazing and carpets in your 'boats'? That keeps out the noise! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

How little do you understand?
Us mobo types, like the air. Unlike those raggies who hide down in their dark, deep cabins, we like to sit out on the aft deck or cockpit drinking a few champers and G&T's etc, we like to feel in contact with the world around us.

Even when at sea, we belt along on the flybridge with often as much as 30 knots of crreated wind hitting us --- winds that would see most raggies heading for the nearest port, we create every time we go out!

Hence the noise pollution caused by all the raggies around us cannot be screened. there is no protection against it ... so I am pleased to see the wise chaps in Brussels, who know all about being rattled, have deemed to begin the process of silencing your racket.

Apparantly they have correlated the height of the mast with the noise created and are working on a tax based on your height of mast. In fact really thinking about you raggies are like little wind farms scurrying about all over the place ... wind farms require planning consent as indeed you would if you stood still. Yet you have more effect in polluting our visual horizon than any wind farm because we never know here you will pop up.

I had heard that Soltron reduced engine noise output significant;y, but only the US produced one used at the recomended UK/Ireland dosage............/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Do you think this might help?

Life\'s a GAS!!

Its all about GAS I tell ya! Just wait till red gets the boot, my ageing old girl (no - not the wife!) will be on an upward incline in value.

I will be there on my deck (if it hasn't fallen through) with my G&T in hand (if the fridge keeps working!) in the sun, under the shade of my canopy (only thing that's new!) counting the massive 25% increase in the value of my Windy. Up from £400 to £500.

Now that's what I call living it up!!
