m802, not ce marked so not for use in eu or on eu flagged vessel, 710 great, but no longer available new, 700pro, I think is a marine and ham set, probaly also not for use in eu or eu vessel.
Just get a kenwood ts50 second hand and dont tell any one. The new rules are made for them that dont think, just use it properly and youll be ok ! The frontend receives not really great but its a good reliable rig!
Try the Icom 706MkII. Small (about same size as car radio), excellent build quality and rugged. Mines been on my boat for last seven years of full time cruising with no problems. A Ham rig, but can be 'adjusted' to use marine channels.
Ive never used a icom 706 (i use a kenwood 140s) i know the 706 has the 2meter band 144mhz, can it be addapted or dose it go up to the the marine vhf frequencies??? The Icom has a very good name with the MK2 but if you cant use the vhf then i find it a bit expensive even second hand??
Yes, the 706mkII provides a separate aerial socket to receive a VHF aerial and the radio can be used as a vhf although I've never used it thus and don't know anyone who has. The reason is probably because most of us already have a fixed and/or hh vhf radios before we move on to HF stuff.
Hope this helps, Merry Christmas to you and yours.
I quite agree puting in the channel frequency instead of choosing chanell x y or z wouldent be really practical. I just wondererd if its frequency covered marine bands? 20watts on 2meters isent it?
Do you ever use 2meters and i think you have 60cms??? anyway a third band dont you?
I just wonderd if they were useful aboard? i hardly ever use my HF these days for anything other than WX, all the chat seems to be at the cafe or the cockpit and sometimes online.
Over the years we have organised a chat on 8&13 megs but as the season ends so do the call ins. It would be handy to propose a frequency and keep it that anyone could call in perhaps using local time. There are MM amature radio but their snobs-ever listened always the same 4/5 people saying the same thing!! no use at all for crusing and they wont speak to people they dont know!!!!
Regarding the 2meter band on the 706. I agree i cant imagin useing it for marine band though once or twice when my main vhf was out of service it would have been handy to transmit and listen on my handheld vhf, instead of speaking very slowly and twice! As i dont have a a 706 it would be an expensive purchase just to have the 2meter band.
Have you found any nets useing 2meter i mean sailing nets?
Ive often wonderd if it would be worth adding a 2meter radio, and have over the years had several offered for around the£100 mark?
Merry Christmas and happy new year to you as well--with all this sun i keep forgetting about the holidays coming very soon.
