I have a Ham and the Long Range Radiotelephone Operator`s Certificate...and will be installing two SSB radio`s aboard (Ham and Marine) useing a insulated backstay as the antenna..can I connect the two radios to the same antenna thru a ATU and do I need to isolate both radio`s to prevent feeback... ie only be able to have one working at one any time.....have some sort of switch that supplies power and antenna to one radio and off for the other....where can I get details on installing SSB....many thanks in advance

If you are going to use the same ATU then you can fit a switch where the co-axial cables from
both rigs join to a common co-axial into the ATU. Order one online from wsplc.com
If seperate ATU's then I suppose you could fit a similar switch in the cables from the ATU's to the backstay. Some Ham rigs have internal ATU's which would simplify matters. However I think most operators having both rigs would also have two antennas.
Connect the SSB to the backstay and make or buy a whip for the Ham rig.or vice versa. I would still only operate one at a time!! Mike Harris' books "A Guide to Small Boat Radio" and "Communications at Sea" are both very informative. There's also a website group about SSB/Ham which is worth reading the earlier postings. It's name will come to me soon!!
In fact you don't have to have two radios but that's a long subject.

You don't need to be too shy about discussing solutions that are not strictly in accordance with the regs - plenty of people here do and there haven't been any repercussions, as far as I am aware.

Not shy in anyway at all regards discussing solutions....just shy of boat or radio equipment confiscated or being fined or interned for breaking international (CETP) regs etc etc etc....plus sleep easy.............kind regards
