SS Pan scourers make good lint/hair filters

Having removed a load of hair from our shower sump pump, I have fitted a stainless steel pan scourer into the grey-water collecion sump in such a way that all hair, lint, etc. should be trapped in those in future. Cost, here in Spain, about 20p each and should last for ages. Probably cleanable with caustic, if you wanted to.

Could you explain a bit further Lemain. I am assuming that it is arranged so that it covers the discharge from the sump and the pump sucks through it but am not sure.

We have a filter in line between the sump and the pump but it clogs fairly rapidly and is a pain to clean. So any alternative ideas are of interest.

In our case there is a small sump about 3"x3"x3" deep that has a 1" drain hole, covered by a stainless grid, into which all the shower water drains, and then flows down a conduit to the main sump which holds around 25 litres. The pump is at the bottom of the main sump. By placing the pan scourer filter in the small sump, all the grey water is filtered before flowing through the conduit into the main sump. The scourer is fitted and removed for cleaning by lifting the stainless grid - takes a few seconds.

Thanks for that.

No small sump with ours and the main sump does not have anything that would hold it at the moment but I will look into working something out to do so. Hair is the main problem and even if just getting that out before getting to the in line filter would be a major benefit for us.
