My Whittal ED16 davits are so damn noisy! Everytime we raise the dinghy the whole marina can hear it!
Anyone had this problem, and what lubricant is advisable?, and where do you put it? While on the subject why does it say that although they are rated at 85kilo load PER DAVIT, that the dinghy must not weigh more than 85k?

i wd use "spray grease" or "chain lube" on summink that is going to get hhefty weather like that. Squirt it in gaps, around the wirey bits, and wipe off any excess. With it being grease, and provided you don't go mad with it, it shouldn't drop any on to the dinghy.

Alternatively, lots of people may be relying on you to wake them up?...

I had the same problem with my davits( If you can get in the back of them to lubricate the cogs) I use silcone liquid obtainable at plumbers merchants .I got mine from Wicks. Incidently it is also good for lubricating the plunger in the sea toilets, My toilet is a manual ITT Jabsco. There are six scews holding the plunger make sure you switch it to none flush and pull the plunger to the top(saves water going everywhere) Squirt the silicone round the cylinder and replace the top making sure you tighten the screws down a bit at a time and don't overtighten them. The toilet will then be easy to operate. Silicone liquid does not stain as it is clear so when you do your davits if some does drop on your dinghy it won't mark it
