Has there ever been a more desperate bunch of chancers than this mob?

I cancelled my non-working subscripton at Chichester when Premier turfed them out, received confirmation that my account was now PAYG, but predictably have continued to have the monthly subscription taken from my credit card.

If anyone's considering using them - don't. They're incompetent.

Yep, they are utterly appalling. I wouldn't thingy on them if they were on fire, if you know what I mean.

Yep, and then Square Mile will write to you threatening debt collectors.

They are utterly incompetent, completely unreasonable, and without doubt the biggest bunch of [adjective removed on legal advice] [verb removed on legal advice] [collective noun removed on lots and lots of very fraught legal advice from my lawyer who is, even now, still holding the scotch bottle with one hand while rubbing himself down with a damp edition of the Legal Aid Procurement Review with the other].

I've posted on this lot a number times. I have written to them by recorded delivery, and if I do not get the right reply then will be taking it legal.

If I get to a small claims court then this forum is really useful evidence, shows that I am not unique and the service was non existent.

They were already aware of the comments on this forum.

If you paid by credit card, phone up the card company and dispute the charge for non performance (with HSBC you can't do this if you paid by debit card). I very much doubt that SM are on the ball enough to match charge backs to your account.

I thought they were chasing you for money..... if I'm right, why would you take them to court, rather than wait for them to take you to court?

As I said above, they won't take you to court, but will sell the 'debt' to debt collectors.

I'll find a way....

They did take some money before I worked out how to change the logged card details, making further collections impossible.

Thought I should maybe add to this. Of course Square Mile is a commercial organisation, and if users dont pay fees, the of course legal action will be taken. The reason for issues at brighton and some other Premier sites, is purely because premier marinas would not allow more masts to be erected in their locations. Instead they wanted larger revenue shares which would ultimately result in higher usage fees. Our aim is to have low usage fees and the best service possible. It is interesting to see commenst that we will not let users out of a contract. Every user is emailed when we no longer offer a service in a marina and given the chance to cancel with no obligation, or regrade their account. If we do not hear from the user, then of course their account remains open as you would expect it to. Its not good to hear unhappy users, but similarly, like may of the marine wifi companies that have gone into liquidation over the past 4 years, we have to rmeina a commercial operation, and if usage fees are not paid, we have to collect thse somehow. I welcome useful feedback and will endeavour to respond in a timely fashion. I hope this helps!

Maybe I'm lucky. I had the same problem at Southsea but they only took an extra month off my card. I complained a couple of times to customer support and I eventually (3 months?) had a full refund. Persevere?

Re: They are not so bad.

SquareMile joined the forum and posted at my suggestion. Today I cancelled my subscription and the telephone process was courteous and proficient, not what I was expecting given other experiences quoted here.

My reason for leaving SqM was local laptop driver problems and not due to SqM's service. Previously I found that after using an external remote wifi aerial on the cabin top wifi performance was fine at Haslar.

Since buying a Vista laptop I have suffered USB related system crashes hence my reason to abandon the SqM subscription. If I can resolve the USB driver problems I will rejoin.

Re: They are not so bad.

They've been bought out and some of the folk involved are horrified at what they've got into and have been kicking ar*es from here to eternity...

Speaking of which, I was promised (by a Director of the company involved) an apology from SqM which never came. Time to put my Doc Marten's on and do some kicking of my own, perhaps...

SqM says that every user is emailed when the service is discontinued (that is, when they are chucked out with the rest of the rubbish). I was a user, and never received an email...

By the way, the story about not being allowed to put masts up doesn't withstand scrutiny...

Finally, to the person posting as SquareMile...

I presume literacy is just something that happens to other people, is it?

I note your comments however I think a few folk here have experienced Square mile and other Wi Fi providers refusing to acknowledge e-mails asking for service to discontinue..in fact I am having this very same problem with a company right now who lists all sorts of Wifi hot spots when in fact a large proportion seem to be obsolete entries relating to nodes that no longer exist .

How would you like to take on a contract for a service only to find that once hooked that the service in reality hardly exists in the form advertised and so you get nothing for your monthly fee.. And then have the audacity to sue when the customer stops paying for the non existing service...

Sounds to me like the Wi Fi industry needs sorting out /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I would be quite happy if no pay mean,t no service which is the way some of the providers work..This business of providers hanging on to contracts for a service they seem unable to provide and ignoring e-mails and phone conversations and then sending bailif s round when the subscribers switch of the cards is a sign of a desperate company that needs to do something to sort itself out so that these situations do not arise!!!!!!!
