Square flag pole

For some unknown reason the flagpole socket on my JGM Madeira is square. I have yet to find anyone who makes a square flag pole or even a round flag pole with a square end.

By chance does anyone know of a supplier?

You may be up for some DIY, shouldn't be too hard to do. I would find some square tubing that fits into the ensign socket and attach that to the staff of your choice. Shave the end of the staff until it force fits into the square tube and fix it firmly with a pin and some glue.

Given the propensity of sockets to fill with water make sure that the end of the staff where you have shaved/chiselled/planed/chewed the varnish away is revarnished and I'd leave it in a bit of clear Cuprinol to soak up into the end grain as well, if I were really paranoid.

Perhaps Meakes were trying to start a trend waaay back in the 1970s when your boat was built. My advice would be to remove the holder take it to a chandler and match the screw holes to a round one, then buy it and fit it. </span>

This unique feature is in order to prevent any JGM owner having to put a square peg into a round hole.
