Checked the Spurs rope cutter before launch this summer,
Everything o.k no play in the bearings etc.Everything tight,
Craned out yesterday, had a look around underneath,
Low and behold, Half the Spurs are missing,
The missing cutter is off the fixed side of assembly.
Presumely it has had a good chomp at something!
Can somebody tell me where and if possible to buy spares please,

mike

Check carefully ...

there are about 3 different makes similar in style and then you have the blade cutter ......

Is HH spurs or the other one ??

Anyway - I had spurs and the nylon spacer wore out, the rotating cutter ground itself away and I found it was expensive to replace !

Re: Check carefully ...

HH is Spurs (proper noun)

We have had Spurs on Abemama for the last 10 years. I should feel vulnerable without them. They chopped up a 2" mooring rope in mid Channel. In canals they are indispensible. This year, we had no worries about all the fields of boot lace weed, off the corner of Brittany.

If you have Spurs, you must replace the nylon bearings regularly. As soon as I have even a few mill of play, I replace them (now abt £18.00 for my size) and keep the old ones as spares.

There are a couple of other makes, which might be as good. You speak as you find and the original posting referred to spurs (Spurs?) in particular.

Ta - I was just basing on previous mis-named posts

It has been seen in some other postings where Spurs name has been used for other manufacturers etc. and I was just remarking to be sure that the article is in fact SPURS.

My Spurs I really miss and as you - really recc'd them ..... I had my engine beds and bearers / shaft and coupling replaced a couple of yaer ago and the engineer removed my worn out spurs - and showed me the spacer. My problem was that this was the first time out of water for years - I bought afloat - and the condition was never known. The price of new cutter and spacer was nearly the price of a complete unit ! So I left it off .... last time in UK I picked up a large piece of cargo net and it wrapped around prop etc. It made the boat shake like it was falling apart !! Luckily I made it to Newport quay and then unwound it off by hand.

I shall be fitting a replacement next spring - when SHWMBO stops emptying my wallet !!!!

All agreed Nigel.

Keep up the postings about fuel. We had a big problem this year, so your postings have been very useful and amongst the most interesting on the YBW forums.

Thanks.

Ok .... Please watch this space !!

I am planning on condensing / putting in plain words general spec info on the fuels we use ..... this will take time and a lot of typing - but should answer a lot of questions. I don't say its going to be total answer ,,,,, but then what is !!
