springing furler

Hi everyone,

I have a ROTOSTAY 2 on an old trimaran I'm restoring, every time we try to pull the sail in or out it jams, it feels like its being wound up like a big spring,
I've been told to look at the bearings in the hub but that can't be the problem as the bearing wouldn't roll up under tension like a big spring
any ideas

Bearings top and bottom would be my first look. If the top ones are 'sticky' then likely a 'wind up'.
