Spreader ends

So what is the collective opinion on the best, neatest, best lasting way to protect spreader ends to avoid chafing of the sail please?

I previously had sewn on leather boots which look neat but don't allow easy access to check the fitting underneath. When the rigging was replaced I took the opportunity to fit new 'soft plastic' boots. It's easy to remove them each winter and check underneath. Hello ip485,

If your boat type is your "nom de plume", then you have no worries. IIRC, the sails do not extend to the spreaders in an IP485.

Depending on the size of the boat and of your pocket, a cheap alternative is the old 'Tennis Ball Solution'; they are often available for free from most tennis club. They might not be to everybody's taste but they do work.
