Did I imagine it or have I seen advertised some sort of spreader boot fitting that allowed halyards to be hooked around them to avoid slapping against the mast in harbour? After dancing around in the rain at 5 am this morning adjusting mine, I thouight they might be an improvement - but can't find anything by Googling.

Anyone know where I might find some (and are they any good?)

Bungey cord works well! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You were not dreaming. I recall seeing them advertised a few years ago. Seems like more clutter to me though - frapping works for most of us!

I remeber them too. One of those "good" ideas that comes and goes again I suspect.

Take the halyards away from the mast. Take the ends down to the grabrails using some odd rope ends to extend them if necessary. Mess about with bits of bungy onto the shrouds they only bang against something else ... spreaders probably.

Board the offending yacht tidy the halyards, usually round and round and round making sure that it will take at least a good hour to undo the mess .. Retire back to bed .. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif .. For our own .. Unused halyards to the bottle screws on the shrouds and main halyard to the end of the boom .. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I would worry about things getting caught on them unintentionally. There are so many other ways to stop halyards from slapping against the mast that adding these is trying to solve one problem that doesn't need solving, and creating a (potential) new problem into the bargain. Solutions:
- halyards to base of mast, bungy cord to shrouds to pull them away
- take halyards away from mast - forward halyards to pulpit, main halyard aft
- frap one or more halyards around the mast

I use these. They are very easy to use and have never interfered with anything. A much neater and quicker method than messing about with bungees etc. BTW - now £6.95

Our of curiosity, if "messing about with bungie" is too much trouble, why not just hook the halyards around the back of the spreader? Or take them to the pulpit which, in my view, looks more "professional"?
